Large fish of good diversity are the driving force behind the success of fishing in the lake and its fishing grounds. Visitors can cross the lake over the dam over a pedestrian bridge and get from the east bank to the west bank.įishing at Leaf Lake is a popular pastime year-round, and the Kokanee Salmon Festival attracts many visitors in early October. The average depth of this lake is 72 meters and the maximum depth is 126 meters. The dam is a natural glacial moraine that has settled here and prevents the lake from being just an extension of Lake Tahoe. The depth at the southern end of the lake is rising rapidly towards the shore, but the northern end at the Fallen Lake is much deeper and is for swimming. Access to this lake is restricted to the general public, but there are still many opportunities to enjoy it.Īt the northern end of Fallen Leaf Lake, Taylor Creek is the only outlet that flows into the lake at a depth of 400 meters and flows northward. ![]() There is the Fallen Lake Road, a single lane road, and there is no access to the lake from the road, except for a short section of the Fallen Leaf Road.įallen Leaf Lake is fed by Glen Alpine Creek, which flows from the southern end of the lake, and while other small springs contribute, Glen Alps Creek is by far the most significant and responsible for most of the water. Fallen Lake, a 1.4km wide, glaciated freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, is located north of the state of Nevada and measures 4.6km in length. The trail connects the Angora Lakes parking area to the Glen Alpine trailhead parking area near Lily Lake.Fallen Leaf Lake is a hidden gem that offers peace and fun to the whole family, but travelers who enjoy the splendor of Lake Tahoe may never be aware of its unique beauty. ![]() The Lily Lake trail has an elevation change of 800 feet and features mosaic-like rock work, including aspects unique to the Tahoe trail repertoire - slickrock, boulder traverses, and an expansive view of Fallen Leaf Lake on the edge of a 75-foot cliff. The trail was created to reduce traffic on narrow roads and offer new access to hikers and mountain bikers who want a car-free way to enjoy Fallen Leaf Lake, Glen Alpine Springs and Desolation Wilderness. As we work toward our goal of building trail connections around the lake, the partnerships involved in this project demonstrate what can be accomplished when we work together.”ĭesigned to connect to the newly built trail system on Angora Ridge, the Lily Lake Trail offers stunning, unmatched views of Desolation Wilderness, Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe. “It truly wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. “The opening of the Lily Lake Trail has been a long time coming, and we are so grateful to all of our partners, including the Tahoe Fund, USFS and TRPA staff, as well as the crew leaders and volunteers who helped make it happen,” said Patrick Parsel, TAMBA trails director. The trail was completed by the US Forest Service and the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association using about 4,000 volunteer hours and contributions from Tahoe Fund donors, including the Mathman family, and a triple match from Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise guest donation program at Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood. The new 2.1-mile multi-use trail provides access to Fallen Leaf Lake and Desolation Wilderness for non-motorized users and features stunning views of each, along with Lake Tahoe.
